Second Telecom Union in Taiwan was formally established on April 28. APBT (Asia Pacific Broadband Telecom) Workers’ Union launched its founding conference in CTWU headquarter office. APBT first President Bruce Lee said that, the primary mission of APBT Workers’ Union is to win a seat for labors in APTG(Asia Pacific Telecom Group) Board of Directors.

There are around 700 employees in APBT and over 100 of them participated the founding conference. Bruce Lee, who is also the Manager of APBT System O & M Department, was happy to see the attendance and mentioned that a common consensus of having a union had reached among the employees.

APTG management has not fully pay off 2006 yearly end bonus and refused to listen to the appealing from the employees. Therefore, Bruce Lee and some other colleagues decided to establish the union for fighting for their working rights. Bruce Lee contacted with CTWU and talked with CTWU President Chang. President Chang was willing to offer necessary advisories and aids. The conference room of CTWU headquarter was lent to be used as the location of APBT Workers’Union funding conference.

APBT is part of APTG, which also includes Asia Pacific Broadband Wireless (APBW) and Asia Pacific Online (APOL). APBW is also planning to set up the union soon.

For the purpose of telecom labors’ right and dignity, CTWU is optimistic about the founding of more telecom unions and willing to give necessary supports. For the power and solidarity, CTWU is promoting the plan of setting up Taiwan IT Confederation of Labor, through the conjunction of telecom unions.

CTWU also encourages new founding unions to participate the international union affairs, and maybe become the member of UNI Global union family.
