Malaysia's law minister has offered his resignation after protesting the government's use of a draconian law in a series of arrest last week.
An aide to Zaid Ibrahim says the minister tendered his resignation letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Monday.
The move came after he broke rank and criticized the use of the Internal Security Act, which allows indefinite detention without trial, to detain an opposition lawmaker and two journalists last week.
The aide, who declined to be named because he is not authorized to speak to the media, says it is up to the prime minister whether to accept Zaid's resignation.
It marks another blow to Abdullah, who is facing an opposition threat to oust his government this week.
