Fur is Dead
Don't kill them with your shopping vouchers
With the Year of the Ox only a week or so away, and the government handing out shopping vouchers to the island's 23 million citizens, the first ever animal rights group in Taiwan will hold its first public event in Taipei on Friday, to urge people not to use their vouchers to buy any fur products this Chinese New Year.
Date: Friday, January 23, 2009
Time: 12:30 p.m.- 1:20 p.m.
Place: Taipei. Near Zhongxiao Fuxing station exit 4, plaza at Da-an road and Sec. 4, Jhongsiao E. Rd. intersection about 200 feet
Activists dressed as bloodied animals in a life-sized cage will protest the crowded conditions animals farmed for fur are forced to endure while others will hold placards and distribute leaflets to passers by.
Animosa – from the words 'animals' and 'Formosa' – is an animal rights group whose aim is to protest animals and raise awareness of cruelty to animals, particularly those factory farmed for their meat and fur, and to used for experimentation. The independent group was formed in November 2008 and has more than 20 young, compassionate members. It has been working very closely with PETA Asia-Pacific staff (based in Hong Kong) on animal rights issues in Taiwan, including the media event outside Taipei City Hall last Friday to encourage people to boycott cow's milk and to choose soy milk instead.
Animosa spoken person Jessi Chang (張家珮) says: "Most fur sold in Taiwan is imported from China. The animals live their entire lives in tiny, barren cages, and are often skinned alive, all in the name of "fashion." We hope that when people learn about the cruelty behind fur clothing, they will choose to dress compassionately and never wear any fur products."
Your coverage is invited. Please RSVP to 張家珮 (Jessi Chang) 921741417(mobile) or AnimosaTW@gmail.com
