Yun Yaoshun, 82, stands inside her home at Shangba village in the northern part of China's Guangdong province August 27, 2009. Yun watched her son and two grand daughters die of cancer. While her son died when he was 54, her two grand daughters were only 12 and 18 when they succumbed to cancer of the kidneys and stomach. One needs to look no further then the river that runs through Shangba to understand the extent of the heavy metals pollution that experts say has turned the hamlets in this region of southern China into cancer villages.REUTERS 策劃、編譯■謝雯伃
在各國努力拚經濟的同時,很少有人看到為了發展背後付出的慘痛代價。
為了吸引投資人進駐,各國除了提供便利的交通和便宜的勞動力之外,
很多時候更放寬法律,因而引進了許多高污染和高風險產業。
於是,經濟成長率數字的每一次突破,很多時候代表了,
又有河流因而不再清澈,空氣因此具有毒性,
同時更有許多人只能默默承受找不出原因的怪病。
不禁令人思考,為了發展經濟,污染難道是必要之惡?
