International Labor Day celebrates the social and economic achievements of the labor movement. Yet since the advent of neo-liberal globalization, those who adhere to this failed doctrine have intensified their attacks on these achievements.

摘要:

2008年美國金融海嘯的擴大，已經衝擊全球經濟，造成了空前的危機。在越來越嚴峻的經濟危機處境下，全球的資本家為了轉嫁危機的風險，依然像過去一樣，用解雇和壓榨的方式來對待勞動條件每況愈下的勞動者，這樣的剝削和壓迫現在正同時發生在在地的勞工和移住勞工 ( 即外籍勞工 ) 身上。為了瞭解經濟危機對全球勞工權利的破壞和影響，並透過意見交流來探討保障勞動者權益的可行辦法，我們誠懇地邀請您參加我們將在2009年3月22日主辦的「全球經濟危機下的勞工出路」座談會。

MECO Should Blacklist Taiwanese Broker, Employer and its Philippine Placement Agency

The Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) should blacklist Sage International, a Taiwanese broker for intimidating, exploiting and overcharging OFWs of Jia Chiarng Company. The employer and Philippine agency should likewise be banned for the same offenses. At the same time, MECO should not accept the proposal of Taiwan's Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) of a new contract between brokers and migrant workers that would make the former the only legal and labor representatives of the latter among others.

Defend the Retrenched Workers in Walton Advance Engineering Inc.

We deplore Century Pacific Corporation a local Taiwanese broker (placement agency) for intimidating 168 retrenched OFWs of Walton Advance Engineering Inc. into signing agreements with the company which is grossly unfavorable to them. We also deplore the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) for interceding only on behalf of 50 of the workers who have not yet signed said agreement and are only negotiating for their airfare back home.

New Sample Contract for in Taiwan Would Institutionalize the Broker System and Limit the Rights of Migrant Workers

The new sample contracts between migrant workers and Taiwanese brokers proposed by the Council of Labor Affairs (CLA) will institutionalize and strengthen the broker system in Taiwan and limits the rights of migrant workers. It legalizes the monthly brokers’ fees in the guise of service fees paid by the migrants’ even if such fees are for their management and additional fees imposed by the brokers whose legality in the past was questionable.

We member organizations of the Katipunan ng mga Samahan ng Migranteng Manggagawa sa Korea (KASAMMAKO) or the Unity of Filipino Migrant Workers Associations in Korea, with clenched fists calls for a stop to the massive crackdown on migrant workers in South Korea especially Filipino migrant workers, respect and protect their human rights.
