現年59歲的Mumia Abu-Jamal，美國黑人覺醒運動「黑豹」前成員、社運人士、美國費城黑人記者協會主席，被控於1981年殺死一名費城警員，判處死刑。1995年費城州長下令處決，上萬人示威抗議，Mumia的支持者認為，他是因為反對警察濫權、支持工運及種族歧視，而遭到不公平審判及政治檢控。期後，曾在庭上指控其殺警的證人，亦表示當年是受到警方威脅才作供。往後的三十年，他在獄中堅持自己無辜，並出版六本著作，紐約時報形容他為「全球最知名的死囚」，2012年法國有一街道以其命名，足見國際支持。2012年1月，Mumia被改判為終生監禁，不再是死囚。 本片資料詳盡，創意剪接，電影配樂及主題曲由Massive Attack主理，英國著名演員Colin Firth為製片人，Noam Chomsky, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Angela Davis, Alice Walker齊齊現身支持。 Mumia Abu-Jamal, currently 59 years old, is an ex-member of the Black Panthers, an activist, and president of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. In 1981, he was arrested for the murder of a police officer. He was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death. In 1995, the mayor of Philadelphia ordered an execution and thousands of people protested against this. Mumia’s supporters believe that due to Mumia’s strong views against abuse of police power and active support towards the labor movement and anti-discrimination, he did not have a fair trial and suffered from political persecution. A witness who testified that Mumia did shoot the police officer later claimed that he was threatened by the police to give this testimony. Mumia spent the following 30 years in prison, protesting his innocence and published six books and other commentaries. Mumia Abu-Jamal was depicted as “the world’s best known death-row inmate” by The New York Times and in 2012, a street in France was named after Mumia, illustrating immense international support for him. In January 2012, Mumia’s sentence was amended to life imprisonment and he is no longer on death row. The executive producer of this informative film is Colin Firth and the creative editing and soundtrack is coordinated by Massive Attack. Others involved with producing this film include Noam Chomsky, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg, Angela Davis and Alice Walker.
